Mission

Executes Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) responsibilities concerning the development and coordination of the Marine Corps imagery and geospatial intelligence program.

  • Serves as the principal Marine Corps representative for the Director of Intelligence within the national and joint imagery and geospatial communities.

  • Participates in imagery and geospatial intelligence community activities to satisfy Marine operating force requirements.

  • Coordinates and participates in the development of Marine Corps imagery and geospatial intelligence plans and policies.

Function

External to the Marine Corps:

  • Serves as the principal Marine Corps representative for the Director of Intelligence to other services and national agencies for policies affecting the planning and direction, collection, processing and production, dissemination, and utilization of imagery and geospatial intelligence.

  • Coordinates and validates Marine Corps service level imagery special collections and standing requirements for submission to the Central Imagery Tasking Office.

  • Advises, as required, to ensure Marine Corps imagery intelligence architectures are interoperable with national primary and alternate imagery dissemination paths.

  • Conducts liaison with the National Imagery and Mapping Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency Office of General Counsel on matters relating to imagery intelligence oversight and domestic coverage.

  • Responds to the Freedom of Information Act Office for requests to the Marine Corps for imagery materials, products, and derivative textual information or analytical methodologies.

Internal to the Marine Corps:

  • Coordinates Marine Corps imagery and geospatial intelligence issues with Marine Corps Combat Development Command (MCCDC), Marine Corps System Command (MARCORSYSCOM), and other HQMC staff elements.

  • Establishes policy guidance for the dissemination of national level imagery to the Marine Expeditionary Forces and the Marine Air-Ground Task Forces operating in an expeditionary environment either afloat or ashore.

  • Coordinates Marine Corps imagery dissemination architecture matters with the MCCDC and MARCORSYSCOM.

  • Coordinates with MCCDC and MARCORSYSCOM to ensure maximum use of the Marine Corps Concept Based Requirements System process in imagery and geospatial intelligence related matters.

  • Identifies and coordinates imagery and geospatial intelligence related issues within the Marine Corps to fully exploit all organic resources available to the Marine Corps.

  • Sponsors the Marine Corps Imagery Working Group.
