Mission
Serves as the Commandant's principal intelligence
staff officer and is the functional manager for intelligence and
cryptologic activities. As such, the Director acts as Service Intelligence
Chief on joint intelligence matters, participates in the formulation of
policy for electronic warfare, sponsors research, development and study
projects on intelligence, cryptology, and ground electronic warfare.
Function

Represents the Marine
Corps within the national intelligence community on intelligence,
counterintelligence, terrorism, classified information, security
review, and cryptologic activities.

Serves as the designated
Special Security Officer (SSO) and is responsible for SSO matters
within the Marine Corps.

Serves as a member of
the National Foreign Intelligence Board, National Foreign
Intelligence Council, Military Intelligence Board, and other
national intelligence community forums.

Manages Marine Corps
participation in the Defense Attaché System.

Supervises Marine Corps
participation in the Department of the Navy cryptologic activities.

Analyzes and
disseminates pertinent finished intelligence to the Commandant of
the Marine Corps (CMC) and the Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC)
staff.

Discharges Marine Corps
responsibilities for intelligence estimates, plans, reports, and
studies.

Reviews, analyzes, and
coordinates joint papers that pertain to Marine Corps intelligence
matters. Recommends positions for approval and use by the CMC and
the HQMC staff.

Develops plans,
policies, operational concepts, doctrine, and techniques in the
field of intelligence, counterintelligence, and cryptologic/signals
intelligence in coordination with staff agencies.

Coordinates with the
HQMC staff to develop plans and policies.

Formulates and refines
the Marine Corps Intelligence Career Development Program and
Cryptologic Career Development Program in coordination with the HQMC
staff.

Sponsors intelligence
and cryptologic military occupational specialties. Coordinates with
the HQMC staff to formulate manpower and training requirements for
those military occupational specialties. HQMC advocate for Marine
Corps Intelligence and Cryptologic Career Development.

Reviews required
operational capabilities for intelligence collection and processing,
to include reconnaissance and surveillance (less target acquisition)
systems.

Manages the Marine Corps
Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities Program (TENCAP).

Develops and coordinates
plans and policies concerning Marine Corps reconnaissance and
surveillance matters.
