Marine Corps Safety Awards_______________________________________________________

SECNAV Instruction 5100.15A
established the Secretary of the Navy Awards for Achievement in Safety Ashore, the Marine Corps Safety Awards Program, as outlined in MCO 5100.32, which supplements this program.

The Marine Corps Safety Awards Program provides recognition of commands and personnel for significant contributions and accomplishments made in the field of safety and mishap prevention.

  • Marine Corps Center of Safety Excellence: This award is presented annually on a fiscal year basis to Marine Corps installations that have established a comprehensive safety program. This award includes a citation signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps authorizing use of the title "Marine Corps Center of Safety Excellence" and awarding a CMC Safety Flag to be flown during the following calendar year. The Command will also receive a commemorative wall plaque.

Eligibility: Bases, Stations, Depots, MCAGCC, MCSA, HqBn (HQMC), MarBks 8th & I, 1st MCD, and Blount Island Command.

  • Marine Corps Superior Achievement in Safety: This award is presented annually to one officer, one enlisted, and one civilian member who have made the most significant contribution to the Marine Corps Safety Program. The award will include a citation signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps and a commemorative wall plaque.

Eligibility: All Marine Corps military and civilian personnel.

  • Marine Corps Achievement in Safety Award: This award is presented annually on a fiscal year basis to one Marine Corps command in each group that has established the most outstanding safety program. The award will include a citation signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps and a commemorative wall plaque.

Eligibility: All Marine Corps commands.

  • Marine Corps Merit Award in Safety: This award is presented annually on a fiscal year basis to Marine Corps commands that establish an outstanding safety program and have reduced their reportable mishap rates over the previous two years. The award will include a citation signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Eligibility: All Marine Corps Commands and units.

  • Marine Corps Command Safety Awards Program: Per 5100.32, the Marine Forces Atlantic, Marine Forces Pacific, and Marine Forces Reserve shall establish a Marine Corps Command Safety Awards Program to recognize the outstanding safety performance of subordinate units and military personnel.

    Additionally, commands which do not fall under the force commands shall establish a safety awards program to recognize the outstanding safety performance of subordinate units and military personnel.

Navy League Admiral Vern Clark & General James L. Jones Safety Awards______________


From the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Safety


The Navy League of the United States is seeking Navy and Marine Corps personnel or organizations that have made the Department of the Navy safer.

The Admiral Vern Clark and General James L. Jones Safety Awards recognize individuals or groups whose actions and example have significantly improved the safety culture within the Navy or the Marine Corps.

“The Navy League sponsors these awards to stimulate safety ideas, suggestions, or programs that will reduce mishaps and fatalities by providing special recognition to individuals, units or organizations that exemplify and advance a culture of safety,” said Navy League National President J. Michael McGrath.
In addition to a Navy League scroll, recipients of the safety awards will receive a cash award from proceeds generated by contributions from former Secretary of the Navy Gordon England and his wife as well as multiple corporate sponsors. Aviation Mishap-Free Flight Time Awards___________________________________________


MCO 1650.23E
 provides all instructions for submitting both individual and unit level Mishap Free Flight Time Awards. Marine aircrew are eligible for an individual Mishap Free Flight Time Award for each 1000 hours they fly mishap-free. Involvement in a Class A mishap, as defined in OPNAV 3750, in which aircrew error was a causal factor will remove an individual from eligibility for this award.
 
Squadron Mishap Free Flight Time Awards are awarded for each 10,000 hours of mishap-free flight time. A Class A mishap will remove a squadron from eligibility for this award unless a controlling custodian grants absolution for safety awards purposes and continuation of mishap-free flight time per para 819 of OPNAV 3750. Controlling custodians determine a squadron's eligibility for this award.

GEICO Military Service Awards Program____________________________________________


GEICO Military Service Awards
were established to recognize noteworthy contributions by enlisted service members of the Armed Forces in specific areas of safety and accident prevention.

The GEICO Military Service awards honor one enlisted member from each of the Military Services and one member from the Guard/Reserve for their special achievements and contributions in each of the following categories: 

  • Drug and alcohol abuse prevention

  • Fire safety and fire prevention

  • Traffic safety and accident prevention

The GEICO awards program presents an outstanding opportunity for Commanders to recognize Marines who have gone beyond the call of duty in educating other Marines in the in the operational risk management (ORM) process.
